Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of outpatient rehab?
Outpatient rehab, as the name suggests, treats substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions in an outpatient setting with partial hospitalization programs or intensive outpatient programs, mainly. You receive structure and care for several hours in a day/evening and get to go back to your home or a sober living residence afterward.
Outpatient rehab is meant for mild to moderate conditions, where you have relative stability outside of a clinical setting.
Do I need rehab?
If you find that your substance use or mental health conditions are interfering with your day-to-day life and functioning, then it is an indication that you can benefit from rehab. Mild to moderate conditions can be treated in outpatient settings, while severe conditions are treated in residential settings.
Do I need detox before I go to rehab?
Yes and no. Sometimes, you may need medically supervised detoxification (detox) wherein the substances from your body are gradually tapered off to minimize and manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms. However, it is not always required. It depends on how severe your substance use is.
How do I find a rehab that is right for me?
Finding the right rehab is a very crucial decision you will have to make. When you are selecting a rehab that is right for you, you will find that there are different options (especially online). Find one that is right for your needs and aligns with your principles as well as your future journey. You can even ask for referrals from your primary healthcare provider or family/friends. Once you choose the rehab that feels perfect for you, visit the center when you have the time for a better understanding. Interact with the staff and other clients to get a clear idea of what you can expect from here.
What can I expect when I begin with rehab?
Rehab begins with a psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis of substance use and/or co-occurring mental health conditions. Depending on your diagnosis, a personalized care plan will be created for you in collaboration with you, as you will be an active, equal participant in your recovery. Once you find that the care plan aligns with your needs and goals, you will begin treatment, where you will receive structure and care involving individual therapy, group therapy, supportive counseling, medication management, social support, and aftercare.
What types of therapy are offered in a rehab?
Psychotherapy or therapy is the cornerstone of rehab and the foundation for your recovery. Typically, rehab follows the Matrix Model, wherein you will receive therapies like motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, contingency management, and 12-step recovery programs. Traditional therapy is also combined with holistic healing methods like art therapy, meditation, mindfulness, music therapy, yoga, and more.
Basically, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy; it needs to be personalized to your needs and goals for it to be effective.
What happens after I finish my rehab?
Once you finish your rehab, you will move toward aftercare, where you receive continuing care and support so that you can maintain and establish your recovery. You can also move to a sober living facility for the extra bit of structure and care as you transition back to independent living. Sober living facilities are residences are where you can find structure, support, and a substance-free environment during and after your recovery
What kind of aftercare options does rehab offer?
After completion of the initial treatment stages, your aftercare plan will be put in motion. This is to ensure you receive the care and support you need to maintain the recovery you have achieved. Aftercare typically involves ongoing therapy/counseling, medication management, personalized relapse prevention plans, attending 12-step recovery peer support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, and other case management services.
Do rehabs offer sober living?
While some rehabs offer sober living options, others do not. At Peaceful Path Recovery, we collaborate with many sober living facilities so that you can find one that fits your needs and goals.
What happens to my loved ones when I am in rehab?
The good thing about outpatient rehab is that you can go back to the comfort of your home and your loved ones once you have received the scheduled treatment for the day. So, you never lose touch with them. In fact, at Peaceful Path Recovery, we even believe in involving family and friends in your rehab so that they can understand your needs and challenges, while also receiving the tools they need to better cope with the tenuous circumstances.
How do I pay for rehab?
